I'm not sure what your banking policy's are in Australia. But here in the states. You can cash a check at the bank it is drawn on whether you have an account there or not. The charge a nominal fee.

The other thing we have here and I am not sure that you have there. Is check cashing places. That's all they do, and they also charge a fee.

My Internet Explorer is p*ssing me off. whenever I load a page, click on a link, or even hitting the "submit" button (which I'm going to do later) IE will show "page cannot be displayed". I have to spam the F5 button (refresh) to make IE load the page. No, there's nothing wrong with the connection. In fact, my Live messenger didn't suffer any disconnection problem.

What could the problem be?

Why doesn't my PC start up?

My PC is a 6-year-old NEC Txi. It was attacked by Trojan a while ago. So, I reformatted the whole thing, but now it gets even worse.

1) It won't start up. It will just beep and the hard disc light won't be on. (Occasionally, it does start up if I am lucky, but the beeping is still there)

2) If I don't touch the PC while it's on for abt 10 mins, it will automatically not let me type in anything on the screen, and I'll have to restart the compu again, which causes the beep and sometimes it won't restart

3) When I open IE, there will be lots of IE windows popping up and a Windows 2000 window pops up as well

Is my PC having some hard disc problem? Can the problem be solved easily I am kind of an idiot with computers. Do i need to buy a new PC?

Taking into account the age of the machine, the win 2000 and your limited knowledge on computers, I would either get a new PC or take your machine to a reliable shop and have them install a new hard drive with windows XP. It should cost you about $300.00 for these two items and labor. Yet, with about $500.00 you could get a decent new PC.

if you don't wanna buy a new one, try this. Beeping is caused by cards(memory, video, lan) and sometimes HD not properly put in place. check it out. For the popping things, all you have to do is install an anti virus software. I would prefer McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise 8.5. Check also the setting on your pc with regards to Stand by and shutdown. Left click on the desktop, properties, Screensaver, Power, then turn off monitor and hard disk option choose never.

Why does my Internet Explorer crash so much?

I'm currently using Internet Explorer 7.0 and everytime when I started surfing on IE 7.0 after a few minutes, it will always crash! After it crashed once, I won't be able to open IE 7.0 again!

I did a full system scan using all kinds of programs but have yet to detect any threats or adwares! Therefore, this may not be where the problem lies!

My mozilla firefox says "use Internet Explorer You Dope" and doesn't respond further. Below the statement it says "I DNT HATE MOZILLA BUT USE IE OR ELSE...."

Many applications i am unable to use because of this problem. I tried to uninstall it from my program (thru control panel - remove programs) but in vain, it is giving the same message and not uninstalling. I even tried downloading from the internet. After downloading, it asked for run, when I chose to run, again the same message. What shall I do? Please advise. just go to www.ip2location.com if it returns a logical value (your fisically in miami and it says miami) then you dont have a proxy, if you do use a proxy it will say something like your in atlanta.

Adobe Reader Error - Failed to Initialize?

My computer runs on Windows XP Home Edition has Adobe Reader 7.0.8.

When I click on a link that supports Adobe Reader in Internet Explorer, a new window pops up and displays the content (i.e. rebate form, etc.). I have no problem using the computer.

But a few seconds before the compuer shuts down, a warning window pops up and says something like "... failed to initialize..." This happens almost all the time after I open an Adobe Reader link in IE and then shut down the computer. It's diffidcult to see what the warning actually says because the computer then shuts down right after the warning pops up. But I think there is something wrong with opening the Adobe Reader file on internet.

The problem only happens when opening an Adobe Reader file on internet, not when the file is saved in my computer.

Could someone please explain how to fix this problem?

I know this is not a serious problem, but I just don't like to get error messages!!

Your nat setting may be too high. It will stop you from joining games. I had the same problem with halo 3, just lower your nat and it should be o.k. Or lower your broadband firewall.

don't really understand the question, need more info, but I believe what you are refrring to has something to do with your cookie handling....set your cache size to clear out after awhile and that should help....also be sure to clear history and temp files every once in awhile (daily if you do alot of surfing) and check the exact page info and source for what and why this info is coming up.

You have malware.

If you have an anti-virus, I suggest you make sure it has the latest virus definitions and run it. If you don鈥檛 have one, many people here swear by AVG (it鈥檚 free).

I also suggest you download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S%26amp;D (they鈥檙e free), install them, update them and run them. If any of the above doesn鈥檛 seem to be able to get rid of everything it reports finding, try running it again, this time in Safe Mode. Safe Mode often prevents the malware from running and protecting itself.

Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

To get into Safe Mode:

1.Log out and reboot your machine.

2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.

4.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. Log in as Administrator. Administrator often has no password.

5.When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

Update and run them all regularly.

I am using speedtouch ADSL Wireless modem and have a NEC laptop. I have no problem connecting to the internet at full signal strength. However, very often (it can be less then a minute or more than a hour), the connection will just suddenly gone, ie cannot surf or download stop speed become ZERO, even though the signal strenght is still strong. What I have to do is to stop the wireless and on it again to get back the connection.

At first, I suspect the modem have some problem. However, recently, I manage to try another laptop (IBM) connecting wirelessly to surf/download/upload and it seems no problem at all for about a week.

So the conclusion is that either my NEC laptop setting is wrong or there is problem with my wireless card. Unfortunately, I do not have other wireless pt to try on with this laptop.

Please advice if I can adjust any settings to prevent this from happening.

Did it come preinstalled on the laptop?

If not, does the adapter come with software?

If so, Windows wireless config and the vendor's adapter software may be conflicting (both trying to connect).

Try assigning a network address to the laptop manually
There are two things you can try:

My wireless network was failing with full signal strength because a program I was using was uploading and consuming nearly 100% bandwidth. Make sure this isn't happening to you. Symptoms were good signal strength, and I could ping internet addresses but could not, say, use a web browser. Closing the program fixed the problem.

Another device might be interfering with the wireless signal. Cordless phones and microwaves are common suspects.

2 drive letter assigned to same hard drive?

recently the computer assigned letter G: to my local drive.

when i open disk manager it shows my 2 hard drive c: and f:, which is normal but i cant see g: so i cant remove it.

Now f: and G: points to the same local drive.

the computer used to assign G: to a USB device (ie MP3 player).

If you had a name brand computer such as a Dell the extra drive letter on one drive is usually where the restore information is stored. Another words if you need to reinstall the operating system this is where the computer looks to do so. Also if you went into your system registry and made changes you first need to know that this is treading on deadly ground so be carefull when doing so. One thing you can try is to do a system restore through Windows. Click on the Start button - Programs - Accesories - System Tools - System Restore. Choose "Restore my computer to an earlier time". Pick a date before all your troubles started and click OK. It takes a few minutes for the computer do this action but it might be a quick fix. Don't worry all this does is revert back to an earlier state. All your files are safe. Any programs that were installed or changes made to the system will be undone or uninstalled.

After I installed a network attached Lexmark E342n printer, I cannot print from Notepad, Wordpad and IE 6.0. As soon as I select the "Print" menu, the application closes by itself without asking me to save. I did the following in different order several times and it was never successful. The problem happens right after GDI+ detection tool was installed. GDI+ detection tool is installed by Automatic update.

1. Install Windows 2000 Pro

3. Do Windows Update to install Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool

4. Install the printer

5. I cannot print from IE 6.0, Notepad, and Wordpad but MS Word can print.

If I pretend that I have a non-Lexmark printer and install it additionally and set it as default printer, I can select the Lexmark printer after selecting the "Print" menu, but I get an error like "val.nameID is null Line:4959". I can print, but I cannot get rid of the error. After printing a "page fault" error comes up. I saw this problem with other Lexmark printers.

How can I change my start-up order so my Internet connection is first?

I have an HP Pavilion desktop tower system connected to the Internet via cable modem (always-on fibre-optic connection). I use Win XP, SP2, updated. Unlike my old DSL, it can take 3-5 minutes to make a connection in IE. If I try to access the Internet before that, IE will hang or tell me the page cannot be found. Eventually, the connection is made, although I have had occasions where the problem persisted and I had to reboot at least once.

I have a large number of programs that search for updates at startup (HP, Java, Adobe, QuickTime, etc), plus others that are necessary to run the system. I've turned off as many as I can and still have the system boot properly, but the problem persists.

In DOS, this could be solved by reordering AUTOEXEC.BAT, and I think even LINUX/UNIX has a way to control the sequence of initial start-ups. Does anyone know of a way to alter XP so that my Internet connection is made first, and all other activity happens after the connection is made? THANKS!

The actual function of the cable is not dependent on the price. However the quality of the materials used in making the cable does.

For example an inexpensive cable might merely be wrapped in some pvc plastic, but an expensive one will be covered in a plastic, have a metal sheath around it, and then another layer of protective covering. Obviously the more expensive cable will last longer and is better against wear and tear.

It sounds like she's either having a stroke or a seizure. There's not much you can do except to try to keep her comfortable. Definately contact the vet as soon as possible. They'll be able to tell you what to do from here. One of our cats occassionally will lose control of his back legs and shows several of the same symptoms as your cat. It is difficult to say. It is not a connection problem though.

The browser encountered a piece of code it did not understand and had to close.
Does it happen when you're on the same site for both browsers? If so then it might just be the site that you're looking at. Try updating things like Java, Shockwave, Flash and see if that makes any difference (Just google update then Java/Flash/Shockwave and it'll take you to the right site)

Otherwise it could just be your connection dropping out temporarily, it happens all the time and usually comes back afte r a minute or two.

Sure. Just like physical attributes that express by skipping a generation, mental attributes can also do the same. Genes affect your disposition for all kinds of health issues. Sometimes they skip a generation because the specific combination of genes wasn't expressed in the middle generation and instead lie dormant only to be passed on and re-expressed a generation later. Sometimes a preg. test can come out negative at both home and doctors if taken too early......You could try taking another home test and if it comes out negative, maybe call your doctor to find out what could be wrong... but I do know stress and a change in eating habits can cause late periods...but if I were in your situation, I'd be bugging my doctor to find out what is wrong.

As far as the startup thing, go to start--%26gt;run--%26gt;msconfig--%26gt;go to startup tab and uncheck AOL.

Another thing you would want to do is go into firefox tools--%26gt;internet options and check that firefox is the default internet browser. You will also want to go to IE tools--%26gt;internet options---%26gt;programs tab and uncheck Tell me if IE is not the default browser so you don't get annoying messages.

First check for updates to FireFox and see if there is an add-on that is needed for AOL. If you right click on the AOL icon in the taskbar, there should be a selection for options. In there you can remove the startup without selection.

IF she is unwilling or unable to do this for YOU. Maybe you can go live with other relatives, Grandparents, Aunt/Uncle, Cousins etc.

Getting other adults involved could be another way of you getting this matter out into the open. That way she will KNOW you are not just acting out.
Mothers will often side with the youngest one in the household because that is the "baby", even long after they are babies. She may feel that you brother is the least capable of looking out for himself, therefore he needs her to take up for him more than anyone else. In your sibling rivalry, you expect him to act as an equal, but he won't because he knows he is going to get preferential treatment. Also, he is younger than you. How responsible were you at 9?

I would say that you should wash your hands of it. Stop telling him what to do, and let your mother deal with him not wanting to accomplish the chores that are his duty to perform. Let HER break up the fights between him and your sister. Let HER sort it out. If you are always in the middle, then you just provide her with a convenient scapegoat.

The oldest child often winds up with the feeling that he/she has to be the "keeper of the rules" and watch out for their younger siblings. Evidently you have fallen right into this, but it's not working out to your benefit. So, time to take a step back, and get yourself out of the middle of all of the conflicts.

And don't lose your temper. That only shows your immaturity...NOT your maturity. It does not help the situation. Keep calm, no matter what it takes, and you will be surprised how quickly that can turn around a bad situation.

First I tried to dowload IE6 but MS web site said I had most current version. I was using Yaho Mail Beta before. I switched back to check a problem to see if it was caused by the new Beta Software. When I tried to switch back to Yahoo Mail Beta this problem began. I'm sent to a page that says I must have a more current version of browser. I've since downloaded IE 7 (MS sends you to IE 7 to download instead of 6) and I've downloaded Netscapes most current and Mozilloa's most current ver. You need to check if yahoomail is not in your HOSTs fils inorder to do this :

1. search for the file named HOSTS.*

2. There might be couple of files by that name look for the file name lmhosts.*

3 Open it in notepad

4 In this file you will find lines starting with # which represents these lines are commented lines and does not execute.

5. See if at the last of the page you find IP of yahoo or www.mail.yahoo.com listed without # in front.

If that is there then remove it and open the brower again with yahoomail address in it.

Error Code 5. Unable to access e-mail.?

I have been unable to access my Yahoo! email for the past week. I continually get error code 5 and the answers from Customer Care are the cut and paste variety. I am not sure what else to do to get onto the e-mail system.

1. I have eliminated my cookies

2. Emptied my cache/History/files etc.

3. I can access mailbox for other yahoo accounts from computers no problem. Just this particular account is proving problematic.

4. Have tried to ope using IE versions 6 and 7, Firefox (PC and Mac) versions, Safari (versions 2 and 3 (beta) for mac and PC version)), Omniweb, Camino and Netscape. All show the same temporary problem.

Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. If you look you will find lots of people cannot send/receive/delete mail at the moment. I was advised to uninstall Javascript and then reinstall the latest version from http://www.java.com/. You could also try http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer for the latest Flash player. This worked for me. If it does not for you then apparently it's only in the all new version. Try returning to the Classic version for now. I would be surprised if this is an issue with the Wii itself. It is far more likely an issue with the cables (av or component) and how it is wired to the display (the TV) since it is the TV that interprets the signal sent from the Wii over the cabling. Although it could be possible that the disc reader interprets the game information incorrectly and transmits and incorrect signal, but that would seem unlikely since it would be more likely to transmit a garballed signal the TV couldn't even intrepret (and not just revert the signal to sepia tone).

I have part numbers that have been entered as 8V0473650000 and need to show as 8V0-47365-00-00 There can be multiple letters in the part number in different location ie 8CH1249A0300 needs to show as 8CH-1249A-03-00 Excel has no problem doing this if its just a number but when you thow in some letters no go!

Use TEXT format. This will let you type letters and digits, and display them exactly the way you typed them.

you want to put a little quotation mark before your entry. That way excel knows that you wish to enter it exactly as shown.

then in B1 i would use this formula

copy and paste this formula together in cell B1 (so its 1 long formula) i had to break it up so yahoo will show it all

then copy and paste down your 3000 rows

then when its done,

-copy your B column

-right click on a cell

-click paste special...

-click values

and ok

edit-

oh yeah, consistency is important. if the whole column is 12 digits, this is fastest.

if someone took the time to enter some of the cells with the dashes (making the column inconsistent) then do a find %26amp; Replace (Ctrl-H) and get rid of the dashes

-highlight your column of parts

-click Edit

-click Replace...

-in find what box, type -

- leave the replace with box empty

-then replace all

Ok,I have this really weird problem. Yesterday, around 5 pm, I was on the internet using Mozilla Firefox. I went to sleep afterwards and got back after about 4 hours to check my e-mail. The problem is, when I double clicked on Firefox, the browser showed up for afew seconds then closed by itself and an error showed up saying "Use IE you dope. I dnt hate Mozilla, but use IE or else". I never got this error ever, and it was weird because 4 hours ago it was working fine and all.

So I started using Internet explorer. On one of the forums, someone posted a link to a youtube clip. I clicked on the the link but I got another error saying "Youtube is banned you idiot. The administrators didnt write this program, you know who ???"

I tried to go to youtube.com and it didnt open. Instead I got the same error.

So I came up with the conclusion that maybe my brother is mesing with me and dogging my activity on the net. I think in the 4 hours I was away, he put afew errors here and there.

I haven't heard of this problem before, but is sounds that you have been hacked.

It can be several issues.

The thinks that come to mind is

1) Virus (run virus scan for malware, spywares ect.)

2) Maybe your brother is hacking you from another computer (distance remote)

Anyways, I would run a virus scan and also look for new programs that might have been installed on your computer.

The error messages are made-up ones and somebody is hacking you.

Get hold of some antivirus software and run it over your computer.
it is simple. your brother made some batch files and replaced all your shortcuts with his batch files and messages. just dont use your shortcut and you should be able to get into firefox from the main exe in program files.

Delete the shortcuts you use to open Firefox and IE,

Go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

or wherever you installed Firefox to and make a shortcut of the .exe file and it should be fine.

And also do the same with IE.

Please backup your data some where else, format your system, put another operating system and thereafter protect your PC by restricting other users using a password.
Assuming its your brother or someone you know:

1) Kick their *** (then continue below)

Assuming you have no idea:

2) follow the fixes listed above AND

3) Turn off Remote Assistance. I know of NO ONE who has ever actually asked Microsoft to fix their computer online. If it does happen that you do one day, just turn it back on.

4) restart computer in safe mode, rerun AV and anti-spyware

5) restart computer normally

6) Still have issues? Run CCleaner, check the registry for oddness.

7)UNINSTALL firefox/IE

8)Run CCleaner again

9) Install firefox/ie fresh and new (hey, ie8 is out and so is firefox 3- might as well update now, eh?)

10) Check it out.

11)If you still have issues- then things are nuts. Make sure your ISP is dynamic (unless you MUST be set by your ISP) and that your DNS is either auto or opendns

Yahoo Toolbar buttons in Firefox are gone?

When I open Firefox now all of the buttons I had on my Yahoo toolbar are gone except for the Anti-spy button. They were there the last time I used Firefox though so I don't know what happened to them. I tried adding buttons but apparently they're not being saved for some reason because when I go back into the option to add buttons none of the ones I checked still have the checkboxes marked and refreshing the toolbar doesn't help either. My toolbar works fine in IE so it seems to be just related to Firefox which may mean it's problem with the Firefox browser rather than with the toolbar itself but I'm not sure. Has anyone out there had this problem too? If so, how did you resolve it? Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. The common asnswer I keep seeing bandied about is that is the result of a extension conflict. However, I have neither installed any new extentions nor have I updated any recently. I don't have a solution to offer you but I did want to take a moment and let you know it is not just you.

Edited to add: I had uninstalled and reinstalled the Yahoo toolbar. Problem continued to exist. So I I figured I'd switch over to the Google toolbar. Well... installing the Google toolbar *fixed* my Yahoo toolbar. Even after turning off the Google toolbar, the Yahoo toolbar is still fine. Bizarre!

I don't think it's fair i have to do all the house work. clean,cook,groceries,pay bills,pick up son from school, etc.). He works in a factory and i an office. So he is physically more tired when he gets home then me. When i get home i go straight to the kitchen whereas he goes to the TV set, i don't really complain during the week. The problem is the weekend. I have to make "him" breakfast, because he's hungry...than i have to make him lunch...because he's hungry...than i have to make dinner. And on top of all this I have to do the usual weekend clean up ie. wash clothes, bathroom, groceries etc. Most of the time i don't have a problem cooking but it always comes down with me asking "what do you want to eat?" because it's what he wants. Am I the only person that hates Internet Explorer 7?!?

I was updating my Windows XP and I once again installed IE 7. This is THE worst piece of crap Windows has on the internet. I installed it, then I knew I didn't want the tabs, they're annoying, so I go in and have those taken off. Then I get online and it tells me I'm working offline. I did what it said to connect and it kept trying to connect me via DIAL-UP! I'm on dsl. O.k. so now that I've uninstalled and am back online, would I have to turn the automatic updates off to keep this little icon from showing up. I want and need to update Windows, but not if I have to get that IE and please don't tell me all these other things are great because my job uses IE and I need it. Just help me with the update icon please or either tell me how to fix the problem with Internet Explorer hell.

FireFox has those beloved tabs and then some. I love how FireFox has firebug and the webdeveloper tool. The plug-ins that they offer kicks a*s and blows IE and the competition out of the water.

I love the tabs, now I don't have to open so many windows. Also, you can use IE7 and just ignore the tabs, you don't have to use them. I mainly use Firefox though. I think it is faster than IE and the interface is better to look at.

Lol...True, you're not the only one...A lot of people hate Internet Explorer (or Windows for that matter). Personally, I use Mac and as for the browser I use Safari. As for Windows, my suggestion would be - remove Internet Explorer and install Mozilla Firefox. Firefox is the fastest and safest browser on the net. It supports more stuff than Internet Explorer. You can also add different plug-ins and change themes. To remove IE, go to Add or Remove Programs and remove IE7. Now install Mozilla Firefox! Trust me, after you use Firefox you would not want to go back to Internet Explorer.

I currently use Firefox, but recently I've found it's been running so damn slow and leeching memory like crazy- I don't have many extensions, and none outside of the norm (AdBlock Plus, DOM inspector, LongTitles and WOT) so I was wondering if a different browser would solve the problem?

I tried Safari/Opera a while ago, but I found them kinda clunky, whereas I found firefox easy and smooth to use straight away- do they get better when you're used to them? Is it even worth getting used to them? I begin to wonder if I ought to just wipe firefox off and do a clean install?

To be honest, I've found that often IE will load a page in half the time it takes firefox just to open a window, so I wonder if windows is kind of biased against other browsers to begin with- If I didn't hate IE so much I'd consider going back to it.

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining

network.http.proxy.pipelining

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

Firefox ultimately is the best browser out there. IE will load some pages faster than Firefox and in my experience hotmail only really works in IE. Firefox has the most amount of add-ons. If you want to get a good addon for IE try IE pro. It offers a lot of the some add-ons as Firefox.

A browsers performance is ultimately going to come down to how good your computer is and your internet connection. I have a MacBook Pro and a 7-year-old Sony Vaio running off a cable line.

On my MacBook Pro I use Flock, a great browser based off of Firefox that has all kinds of handy features for social-networking gurus (Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, etc.).

On the Vaio I use the latest version of Firefox. Even on a seven-year-old machine, the pages load quickly (not quite "Safari on a Mac" quick) and memory issues rarely arise.

First of all, the more you use a program, the more likely your OS will load the libraries into cache. * Firefox got rid of the option to block 3rd party cookies. Supposedly because it doesn't work (it does almost all the time). You can still block 3rd party cookies in FF, but you have to go to the messy about:config page - YUCK

* Opera takes up less memory space than Firefox. The plugin community is full of bad programmers (they make something that works rather than something that works efficiently).

* More and more people are switching to Firefox, so hackers have noticed this and are starting to make exploits for IE and Firefox - which makes Firefox NO MORE secure than IE. Yeah, people are going to flame me for this one, but it's true. Actually, I'd venture to say that Firefox is even more open to attack because of its open source nature. It's easier to find exploits for Firefox.

So you want to do some "hacks" in that sloppy about:config to speed up Firefox? Opera has built in support for that.

Change Max Connections to server from 8 to 16, and the max total connections to 32. You can change them to a bunch of different things.
firefox is safer coz adware infects IE , also IE has a lot of exploits

like remote execution that doesnt happen in firefox
