What is the term used to describe someone who uses word pictures to explain them self?

I'm having a brain freeze and can't think of the right word here. What would you call a person who uses a comparison of two totally different things to try to explain themselves?

IE: My husband hates to fight %26amp; he holds in his bad feelings. The problem is they slowly seep out over time. It can take weeks to actually creep out. He didn't get how bad this is, so I compared him to a pool when the pump/filter system broke. When a bit of junk got in the pool, it was no big deal and so they just left it there. They planned to get the pump fixed and were going to just clean it all out afterwards. Well time went by and more junk fell in the pool. Since nothing was being taken out, the water got mucky. Next thing they knew, 3 weeks passed by and the pool was green and nasty. It got worse as the pool started to over flow %26amp; the wrotten water went everywhere. Just like his attitude when he holds stuff in. What would you call this trait/process?

You are making an analogy.

are you talking about a "metaphor?"
There isn't a word for a person...but when you create a "word picture" as you call it you are using an analogy which is what your pool story is
When you say something is "like" an object or say that someone is (adjective here) "as" a (noun), you are giving a simile. It's a comparison using "like" or "as," only slightly different from a metaphor or analogy. It's just less conceptual.
