To make music your career you should probably be at a much higher standard than you suggest in your question. You will need to get a good teacher who has much experience playing in a good professional orchestra and maybe some theory lessons to help improve your reading. As to your tone the quality of your bow and violin and strings will have a big influence. Thats why the really famous violinists always seem to have a Strad or some other 300 year old Italian masterpiece. Good technique is also a big part of tone production and the reason why you need a teacher who has played the instrument for a living not just taught it in schools. They will have had to do the job every day and will have learned the things that someone who doesn't play professionally will not even be aware of!
To improve yourself as a musician you must listen to as much music as possible. Go to as many concerts, operas and ballets as you can and listen to the music. Hear what the performers do with the music to make it interesting. Listen to CDs with the music in front of you and watch how the performers phrase and shape the music. Read lots of books dealing with music history and performance practice to learn about the different styles and sorts of music. Above all you must practice for hours each day. When I was a student the string players would be putting in up to 5 hours a day in the practice room.
Think very carefully about a career in music because enjoying music is not enough to make you a living. Passion for music is all very well but only very high levels of skill, competence and reliability will get you a good job.

I think you should be at a much higher level than you are now if you want to be a teacher.
I disagree with the remark about needing a very expensive instrument. Itzhak Perlman might play a million dollar Stradivarius violin but he will make any violin sound good whereas you and I would not sound very good on his violin.
It is the player that produces the great tone and it does not really matter what they play. I have heard professionals play on on rubbish violins and produce a fantastic sound...it is quite humbling and amazing.
People place too much emphasis on the quality of the violin and not enough on the skill of the violinist.
I suggest you get a private teacher and get an honest opinion of your playing. What are your faults? How can you improve?.
You have alot of work to do...many hours of practise. The videos on this site may help you :
