Java crashing and user permissions on Vista?

I asked this question a while back, and never got the solution.

Here's the problem:

Any page that requires Java, or selecting the Java Console from the Tools menu, causes the IE window to simply close. It then crashes, reports to Microsoft, and restarts. This happens the same way in Firefox as well!

Well I finally found a solution: search for "Internet Explorer" in the start menu and Run as Administrator.

So something is telling me that there is some runtime that is loaded when Java is necessary that has the user permission set as Admin when it should not be.

My question is this: how can I find this file (any suggestions) so that IE and Java can work together without having admin control? If that is even what the problem may be.

The same exact problem also occurs with QuickTime player.. only works when run as Administrator.

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 and I'm not encountering the same problems you are describing which means it's localized in your system.

I only have two suggestions, which hopefully, will remedy this issue.

1) Uninstall Java through Windows Control Panel manually then reinstall Java. There could be a corruption with administrative privileges during the initial installation.

2) This solved my problem with Windows turning back from Aero theme back to Basic theme. Update Java. Simply go to th control panel under Classic View (and if you're running the x64 edition too, it should be under VIEW 32-BIT CONTROL PANEL ITEMS), open the JAVA (console) and have it Update. There was a recent Java update about a week ago I believe which fixed quite a few Vista problems.

You probably already tried these things, but it's just my two-cents.

As for Quicktime, it sounds like something's wrong with the plugin itself.

Good luck.

First of all you should install all the updates and then go for this programs properties and try running it with compatibilty mode. I hope it would work then, please do let me know if it works coz mine is working perfectly and if problem persists do tell me which version u r using and which version of java runtime you are running. You can update java form the site
