My mate has recently had a lot of bother from his dell laptop, he's had it a while now and its become slow, has had a few odd problems and has become riddled with various bits of spyware and adware. Being nice; I took on the mission of fixing various issues he had as well as scanning and removing as much spyware as possible. Ive managed to get 95% of it up and running but for some reason; his laptop will not store cookies - Ive been through both IE and Firefox settings and both show that cookies are enabled but something is overriding this and therefore he is unable to log onto any websites that require passwords, usernames etc... Im really hoping someone can help with this, is there any spyware/viruses that totally block cookies from being written? Anyone had a similar issue before? I know there has to be a way of fixing this but its making my head hurt!

He's lucky
Check if he has a firewall installed such as Norton Internet Security.
Make sure the settings in Internet Security are not set to Custom but set to Medium or High depending on the type of website, trusted or not trusted.
