I am using dial up connection at home. My PC is not connected to any local area network. I can connect with the internet but i cannot browse any webpages, not even the homepage and it happens with both IE6 and Firefox. I checked the internet connection settings and i think there's nothing wrong. No active firewall. I am using AVG 7.5 and in the process of getting updates I get an error. It says "The server name cannot be converted to an IP address". TCP/IP property is set to obtain IP address automatically. I also tried setting the level of Security in the Internet Options back to default but it wont work.
What do you think is the problem and what should I do? I have already reinstalled IE and Firefox, as well as AVG.
Thanks in advance to those who will answer.
Web browsing problem?internet explorer update
I'm not an expert but it sounds as if at some time you did have access so what have you changed?
The problem is in connection settings:
You need to call your adminsitrator (the provider of your internet connection) and get the dial up info. They will give you proxy server details such as the IP address, and may even be able to help set it up ..
Web browsing problem?web browser internet explorer
First try to acertain whether u are connected to Internet or not. Go to run--%26gt;CMD--%26gt; . Type ping www.yahoo.com.
if u recieve a packet reply from yahoo then u have a coonection and something is wrong with ur browser settings. If u do not have reply then ur machine does not has connection and u need to configure ur Dial UP connection properties. If applicable in ur case then DNS also.
I have an idea, put an ip address then check once again for your browser and go to my network places-%26gt;network connections -%26gt;new network connection .
Go and check Task Manager -%26gt;networking tab look that there is something showing or not if it is showing then your network card and network cable is fine.
