Will anyone out there please explain why making "ape noises" and calling someone a "m

President G. Bush has been likened to a chimpanzee, children are often told to stop behaving like monkeys, and cricketer Botham was called "Pig". The list of sportsmen and every other person in the world with an animal nickname is endless. If humans are ALL equal, which we are, then there cannot be a "racist slur" by calling someone "monkey". If, however, you want to accept an evolutionary descent for humans, as opposed to a creationary line, then it is being assumed without actually being spoken, that there are certain peoples on earth who have not evolved as far as others (ie. coming from apes!). These problems are made worse by some of the very people crying racist to be called " monkey". Some have one white parent and one black parent. Thus they could just as well be a white player but have chosen, with the media, to revel in the term of being called black when they are half of each! When will all grow up, accept the world is not fair, get on with life, and prove we are all equal !

Calling a person of Black African heritage "monkey" is racist according to Western standards. Black Africans were brought as slaves to America and Europe and were discriminated for centuries in their countries by White racists -and they were compared to Apes and monkeys. In London during colonial times they used to have human zoos where they would put Africans between Monkeys and Whitemen -teaching children the "theory of evolution".

Even until 1990, South Africa was an officially racist country where Black Africans were considered Kaffirs or Monkeys -the United States had identical policies of racism till 1960's civil rights movement. Australia treated Aborigines as "monkeys" until 1970's.

There's a lot of blood written in the hands of these countries and I won't be surprised if present generation Africans (Andrew Symonds being one of them) are extra-sensitive when it comes to the "monkey" slur. Perhaps Harbhajan should not have called him that. Something like "mother-f%26amp;ker" or "Bas-tarde" would have been far appropriate.

calling someone a monkey is downright wrong. it compares a human being to a creature that is inherently dumber and uncivilized. black people are often the victims of these remarks for the reason that those racist people who say such things consider them all to look alike and to look like monkeys.

bush is called a chimpanzee because he has the facial features and, some say, the intelligence of one.

the very fact that children are told to stop monkeying around should be an indicator of why it is rude and wrong to call a person a monkey.
Australian cricketers are racist, they have racist eyes. From their eyes, the whole world looks racist holmes.

But only they are. Others aren't
Racist or non-racist is secondary. You can understand if not accept a cricket fan doing that. But not a cricketer to a fellow cricketer.
Animal lover feel it is insult to monkeys,

Monkeys feel what has happened to successors, where genes got mutilated

Aborigins also feel insulted ,

In this world there are more animal lovers than person lovers .
well if his a monkey the loser who called him one must be too
even if calling monkey is not a racist term as you claim, it is at the very least an insult. But western standards, say that calling a black man a monkey is indeed racist. You have to behave based on where you are. If you are in a western country, you must abide by their rules. If you are in an asian or african country, you have to go by their rules.

Not all cultures or places have same rules or principals. What maybe offensive to one culture may not be offensive to the other.

Regarding Bush -- he is called chimp as an insult. And that is very justified because he is a disgusting POS. A very large number of people worldwide hate him.

But that is not the same with cricketers. So you should not use standards of your own culture, when in a country which has different culture. You are the visitor, not a citizen -- so you have to act according to the citizens' rules.
